Eighth: it’s art

It’s the last week of work, I’ve been learning a lot, but at the same time I’m most certainly looking forward to finally getting to go back home.

This weekend, I went with a friend to 798, Beijing’s art district. It definitely was different from what I was expecting, as it was an entirely closed off district, with gates and fences enclosing the massive area. It seemed like every wall in sight was coated in a painting of some kind, and buildings represented a playground of styles, a mix of new and old buildings housing shops, museums, and exhibits.

Although there were quite a few “Instagram popups” with “artsy” interiors and high admission fees to quench the social media thirst of tourists, there were also plenty of well-designed exhibits and incredible street art.

One exhibit I really liked was AI/voice recognition themed. People were nothing more than points of data. An unlimited amount of content could be generated on demand. People could be tracked and analyzed at will. It was a chilling combination of art and tech.
